School places are offered based on each school's admissions criteria. The criteria can include catchment area, whether a child has brothers or sisters already at the school or the distance between school and home.
If it is not possible to offer a place at any of the schools listed on an application, a child will normally be offered a place at the nearest school to their home with vacancies remaining after all on-time applications have been processed. These offers are recorded as 'Nearest school with a vacancy'.
